Silver Nisab is lower → more people qualify for Zakat. This is the recommended standard for most Muslims.
📊 Your Asset Breakdown
🧠 How Zakat is Calculated
- Add all zakatable assets: Cash, gold, silver, investments, business stock, receivables, and other assets.
- Subtract short-term debts due within the next lunar year.
- Compare to Nisab: If your net wealth is above the Nisab threshold, Zakat is due.
- Calculate 2.5% of the net zakatable wealth.
- Pay to eligible recipients — the eight categories mentioned in the Quran (Surah At-Tawbah 9:60).
Example: Cash Rs. 500,000 + gold (50g × Rs. 24,000 = Rs. 1,200,000) = Rs. 1,700,000 in assets.
→ No debts → Net zakatable wealth = Rs. 1,700,000
→ Nisab (silver standard, 612.36g × Rs. 280) = Rs. 171,461
→ Rs. 1,700,000 > Rs. 171,461 → Zakat due
→ Zakat = 2.5% × Rs. 1,700,000 = Rs. 42,500
Gold vs Silver Nisab: Classical scholars differ on which standard to use. Silver Nisab is lower, meaning more people qualify to pay Zakat — most scholars recommend silver as it benefits the poor more.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is Zakat?
Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It's an obligatory annual charity of 2.5% on a Muslim's savings and wealth that exceeds the Nisab threshold and has been held for one full lunar year.
What is Nisab?
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth that makes a Muslim liable to pay Zakat. It equals 87.48 grams of gold OR 612.36 grams of silver. Silver Nisab is lower, so more people qualify.
When is Zakat due?
Zakat is due once a lunar year (hawl) has passed on your wealth. Many Muslims choose Ramadan to calculate and pay, but the actual due date depends on when your wealth reached Nisab.
Should I use gold or silver Nisab?
Both are valid per classical scholarship. Silver Nisab is lower, so more people qualify to pay — this benefits the poor more. Most contemporary scholars recommend silver.
How do I pay Zakat?
Zakat should be given to one of the eight categories mentioned in Surah At-Tawbah (9:60): the poor, the needy, Zakat administrators, new Muslims, those in bondage, debtors, in the way of Allah, and the wayfarer. Many give via local charities and mosque committees.
Is this calculator accurate?
It uses the standard 2.5% rate and Nisab weights. For complex situations (business partnerships, long-term investments, mixed assets), consult a qualified scholar or Mufti.
