🧠 How EMI is Calculated
The calculator uses the standard amortization formula:
- P — Loan amount (principal)
- r — Monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100)
- n — Total number of monthly installments (years × 12)
Example: Rs. 5,000,000 loan at 14% for 5 years.
→ r = 14 ÷ 12 ÷ 100 = 0.011667
→ n = 5 × 12 = 60
→ EMI = 5,000,000 × 0.011667 × (1.011667)^60 ÷ [(1.011667)^60 − 1] ≈ Rs. 116,346
How to reduce your total interest: Pay a larger down payment, negotiate a lower rate, choose a shorter tenure, or make prepayments when possible.

What is EMI?
EMI stands for Equated Monthly Installment. It's the fixed amount you pay every month to repay a loan, consisting of both principal and interest.
How is EMI calculated?
Using the formula EMI = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ ÷ [(1+r)ⁿ − 1], where P is loan amount, r is monthly rate, and n is number of installments.
Does a longer tenure reduce EMI?
Yes. A longer tenure reduces monthly EMI but increases total interest paid. Choose based on your cash flow and long-term cost preference.
Why does most of my early EMI go to interest?
Because interest is calculated on the outstanding balance. In the beginning, your balance is high, so most of the EMI goes toward interest. Over time, the principal portion increases.
Can I prepay my loan?
Most banks allow prepayment, sometimes with a small fee. Prepaying reduces your total interest and shortens the tenure. Check with your lender.
